Books To Read On Your Healing Journey Pt. 2

Welcome back to the Books to Read on Your Healing Journey series. Every few weeks, I add a blog with 5-6 new recommended books to read whether you’re considering therapy, currently in therapy, or simply looking to learn more about yourself and relationships. If you’re looking for a book on a specific topic to supplement your therapy, reach out to us and let us know and you’ll be sure to see some in the next series part!

Atomic Habits by James Clear

Atomic Habits by James Clear is (as you could probably guess), a book all about creating new habits and breaking the habits you’d like to get rid of. While I’ve read quite a few books on habits, this one is by far the easiest to follow and the most practical guide I’ve came across. Atomic Habits is based on the principle of improving by 1% every day. When we break our goals down into small, realistic changes, they’re more likely to happen. This mindset also allows for more compassion for ourselves, and less judgment, along the way. If you’re looking to maximize on your habit building potential, the author even has a habit journal to go alongside the reading.

The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter--And How to Make the Most of Them Now by Meg Jay

The Defining Decade by Meg Jay is a book written for “twentysomethings,” or people hoping to understand, or work with, those in their twenties. The author, Meg Jay, is a clinical psychologist who works with, and researches, “twentysomethings.” As a result, she breaks down the idea of “30 is the new 20” and explains why it is often counterproductive. This book will definitely give you some tools to work through, or understand better, your 20’s.

Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch

The research shows that 95% of diets don’t work, but yet, millions of people are still trying to diet and lose weight, and understandably so, as the beauty industry is a $50 billion dollar industry that we’re swarmed with on every corner. Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch approaches nutrition as anti-diet and lays out the principles to have a more compassionate and fulfilling relationship with food and your body. Ultimately, what this book validates, is that the problem is not you or your body. If you want to grow your relationships with movement, diet, and your body, I recommend picking up this book.

Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab

This book, Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab may be just the book that 2021 needed. Nedra Glover Tawwab, a licensed therapist, uses the latest research and best practices to help you set boundaries and express your needs without apology or guilt. It’s a book that you read and instantly want every person you know to pick up as well.

Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski

Emily Nagoski needed to make a second appearance in this series, because she is so great! In her recent book she teamed up with her sister, Amelia Nagoski, and together they wrote Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle. In their book they discuss the stress cycles women experience and how to break through them and ultimately help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Their book is definitely a must read.
